Carbon Upcycling Technologies

Carbon Upcycling Technologies (CUT) mission is to reduce the carbon intensity of cement and concrete while maintaining strength, durability and cost by enhancing low-value mineral feedstocks for use as supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).

In December 2022, we announced a strategic investment in CUT and agreed a pilot for the supply, installation, and operation of a 50 tdp plant on Ash Grove’s Mississauga cement site in Ontario, Canada.

Later, in June 2025 we actively participated in the latest investment round for CUT. The USD 18 million investment round was led by impact platform Builders Vision, and also supported by some of their other existing investors.

Ash Grove, a CRH Company broke ground on Carbon 1 Mississauga - a first-of-its-kind commercial carbon capture and utilization (CCU) facility at Ash Grove’s cement plant in Mississauga, Ontario on July 29, 2025.
